Justice for Domestic Violence and Burn Victim ‘Sania’: A Landmark Pro Bono Case

At Veritas Associates and Legal Consultants (VALC), we believe that the pursuit of justice should never be a privilege of the few – it is a right for all, including domestic violence and burn victims.

When 28-year-old Sania Bibi became a victim of a horrific domestic violence and burn incident in Kirpa, Islamabad, her family faced not only the trauma of her injuries but the daunting challenge of navigating a complex legal system against an initial cover-up attempt. VALC stepped in to provide expert, pro bono legal representation, ensuring that the truth was heard and the perpetrators were held accountable.

The Case: From False Narratives to Legal Accountability

On June 8, 2025, Sania was allegedly set ablaze in her home. While the accused attempted to dismiss the incident as a “gas cylinder explosion,” our High Court Advocate, Munir Ahmad, worked tirelessly to secure the evidence needed to challenge this claim.

Our legal team facilitated the prompt registration of an FIR at Kirpa Police Station. It ensured Sania’s 164-statement and video testimony were recorded under judicial supervision – critical pieces of evidence that detailed the brutal assault.

Following Sania’s tragic passing at PIMS on July 11, 2025, our team of lawyers successfully moved to upgrade the charges from Section 336-B to Murder and Anti-Terrorism charges, reflecting the severity of the crime.

National Impact and Advocacy

This case has resonated at the highest levels of governance. On July 17, 2025, the Ministry of Human Rights reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy on violence against women during a press conference attended by VALC lawyers. Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights, Saba Sadiq, reiterated her government’s commitment to ensuring swift and effective justice for victims of gender-based violence. She addressed a high-level meeting on cases of violence against women, including the high-profile incidents involving Sana Yousuf, Eman Afroz, and Sania.

Our involvement in the #JusticeForSania movement underscores our dedication to public interest litigation and advocacy for marginalized voices.

“Justice must not depend on one’s means. At VALC, we are honored to stand with Sania’s family, providing dedicated, no-cost legal advocacy to ensure that domestic violence is met with the full force of the law.” — CEO, VALC
